Rain Bird ESP Series Modular Timer

iScaper Rating

See my YouTube video on how to program a Rain Bird ESP Series timer.

One of my favorite timers. 4 station modular timer expandable to 13 stations by using 3 station plug-in modules.

  • Multiple programs give flexibility to accommodate diverse watering needs.
  • Each program can have multiple start times, allowing you to run several programs a day.
  • Modular design makes it easy to expand controller’s capabilities to 13 stations should your watering needs change.
  • Water budget feature allows you to easily increase or decrease watering schedules without reprogramming, so you don’t have to waste time at the timer programming.
  • Four irrigation cycle modes for flexibility. Custom 7 day, cyclic 1 – 31 day interval, and odd/even day watering.
  • Easy programming: Rain Bird’s ESP (Extra Simple Programming) style with large LCD display.
  • Enhanced Diagnostic Feedback – Alerts you to shorted stations or programming errors with a warning light and text message on the display.

Pros – Easiest timer I have run across to program. I love the manual start and advance function. When troubleshooting a system I can advance through the program by simply pushing the manual start button.

Cons – Not many. I have noticed that on some of the older ESP timers that the dial will often not display the correct setting on display and you have to wiggle the dial to get the correct function on the display to show.

  1. Dear Kerry,

Congratulation for the new look of your website!

A special hello from Dubai – UAE.

As i recall i’ve posted few request in your old website, where i have to use my loggin name and password! but i guess that option isn’t working anymore; because there is no place for the username+password.

Anyhow, is there is a way where i can veiw my old entries/posts?

Your help is always much appreciated.

    TIA
    Mohamed

    1. Hi again Mohamed. I’m pretty sure you were using the Forum page which I took down because of all the spam I was getting.

  2. I have the rain bird esp modular and have it setup to run every other day. If I see that it is going to rain is there a way to cancel the day it is going to rain other than just turning it off.

    1. That is the easiest way to shut down the timer. You could program around the rain by setting up the custom schedule on the timer and water days of the week instead of using the skip day feature. For example, if you know it is going to rain on Monday you could set Monday to Off on the custom schedule. So your water days might be Wednesday, Friday, & Sunday, and you would need to turn Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday to Off on the custom schedule. The only other way I can think of would be to add a rain sensor to the timer. This would shut the timer down on days that it rains. This is a solution that would cost more.

        1. You said you had your timer set up to water every other day. I was referring to that when I said skip day. More accurately I should have said cyclic. The timer has four different watering day features: 1. Custom, which I explained was choosing the days of the week you want to water. 2. Odd, which waters on odd days. 3. Even, which waters on even days. 4. Cyclic or skip day, which waters on intervals from 1-31 days.
