What’s Wrong

Click on the items above with a question mark and comment on what you think is wrong in the image.

Most of the time in my blog posts my goal will be to show you the right way to do a sprinkler repair or landscaping project. But I also think it is valuable for you to see examples of the wrong way sprinkler repairs and landscaping projects are done.

So I will be devoting a page to “What’s Wrong”, giving you the chance to view an image and comment on “What’s wrong with this picture?” If no one can guess “What’s Wrong” with the image, after a period of time I will go ahead and provide the answer.

In some images the answer will be fairly obvious, but in other cases the answer may be more subtle and less clear. You may even come up with an answer I didn’t think of. So good luck, and happy troubleshooting.

P.S. I really liked the graphic you see above, because you would be amazed the number of times I have encountered a repair where the homeowners tried to use duct tape to fix a pipe or repair a sprinkler and I have yet to see a repair where it worked. Duct tape is great for a lot of applications, but repairing sprinklers that are under water pressure isn’t one of them.

    Can you offer any suggestions
    Thank You..

    • This is a common problem with older controllers. I’ve been getting a lot of questions about this, so I contacted Hunter Technical support. You should set your timer for the year 2001 to make it match correctly for the year 2012. Here is their response:

Thank you for contacting Hunter Technical Support.
The early SRC controller’s calendar only displays to the year 2011.

For the controller to track the correct days of the week set the current year to 2001. The controller will then display the current day of week for proceeding years.

      Setting the Year:

      1. Turn the dial to the “SET CURRENT DATE/TIME” position.
      2. The year will be flashing in the display. By depressing with the round button with the + or -, you will change the year displayed.

Year 2012 – Set controller for year 2001.
Year 2013 – Set controller for year 2002.
Year 2014 – Set controller for year 2003.
Year 2015 – Set controller for year 2009.

Let me know if this works.
